You can enable auto approval in Day Off for specific leave types. As a result, requests for those types skip the usual workflow and go through instantly.
Steps to Enable Auto Approval
To set up auto approval for a leave type:
- Go to Settings & integrations → Settings
- Go to Leave Policies on the web version
- Click on editing the required leave policy
- Open the leave type settings
- Enable Auto Approval
- Save your changes
How It Works
Once auto approval is enabled:
- Any request submitted for that leave type is automatically approved
- It bypasses the approval workflow
- The request is recorded as accepted
When to Use This Setting
Auto approval is ideal for:
- Bereavement leave
- Emergency leave
- Any leave type that doesn’t require manager review
Why Teams Use Auto Approval
Some absences are urgent or sensitive. In those moments, employees should not have to wait for a manager to respond. With this setting, Day Off accepts the request right away, so the employee can focus on what matters most, such as family or recovery.
It also saves time for managers. Instead of reviewing routine requests, they can focus on the ones that really need a decision. Meanwhile, Day Off still records every request, so your leave data stays complete and your reports stay accurate.
Tips Before You Turn It On
- First, enable it only for leave types that never need manager review.
- Keep regular leave types, such as annual leave, on the normal approval workflow.
- Also, tell your team which leave types skip manager review.
- Finally, review your leave types from time to time to make sure the setting still fits your policy.
